The first converter was manufactured at Uralmash-Mining Equipment in Orsk. The equipment was put into commercial operation at EVRAZ ZSMK in Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo Region.

The equipment has successfully passed all tests and has already reached its design capacity. The new Orsk enterprise (operating on the basis of the South Ural Machine-Building Plant) began manufacturing a vertical converter with a capacity of 320 tons in August 2019. This is the first sophisticated equipment manufactured by a subsidiary of UZTM at the Orsk site.

In May of this year, the unit was shipped to the customer's address. From 10 to 16 October, in the oxygen-converter shop of EVRAZ ZSMK, in the presence of representatives of the expert organization, “cold” and “hot” tests of the KV-320 took place.

“The converter already produces 22 melts per day, or 7045 tons of liquid steel, which corresponds to the design indicators,” said Maxim Yumatov, chief designer of Uralmash-Mining Equipment.

To increase the service life of the lining in the new converter, the throat has been improved, an air cooling system has been introduced in the upper part of the housing, which allows to slow down the deformation of the metal structure. In addition, the design of the hinged drives has been improved to facilitate maintenance.

According to the general director of the enterprise, Oleg Tsetsora, the successful launch of the converter at the enterprise of the largest metallurgical company strengthens its position in the market of metallurgical equipment. Now the enterprise is preparing to participate in several tenders at once for the manufacture of converters of various standard sizes, including a Kazakh company. In production there is a stationary mixer with a capacity of 1300 tons and slag trucks for EVRAZ NTMK (part of Evraz).
